Class Eligibility

The settlement (available here) affects two “Classes” of McAfee customers:

The “Auto-Renewal Class” consists of: All persons in the United States who paid McAfee for the automatic renewal of a subscription license for any McAfee software (including software branded under the McAfee or Intel Security names) from January 10, 2010 to February 10, 2015, and whose first auto-renewal charge was at a price greater than the price paid to McAfee for the initial subscription license. The Auto-Renewal Class does not include any person whose charges as described above were fully refunded by McAfee or fully credited through such person’s credit or debit card issuer.

The “Reference Price Class” consists of: All persons in the United States (1) who initially purchased from McAfee or manually renewed through McAfee a subscription license for any McAfee software (including software branded under the McAfee or Intel Security names) from January 10, 2010 to February 10, 2015, and (2) whose subscription license was initially purchased or manually renewed at a discounted price.

  1. Lorene Carmichael says:

What were the results of the lawsuit?

    ADMIN – Hi Lorene,

The fairness hearing took place on January 27. It will be a little bit before we know the result.

  2. Kathy Brown says:

You are obviously holding my warranted recompense for $ $ 11.50
    not fair

    ADMIN – Hi Kathy,

We are not personally holding a thing. We are simply an informational website.

  3. Elizabeth says:

What date are we to expected to receive the check?

    ADMIN – Hi Elizabeth,

    This is currently under appeal.

    • Gorbir says:

How can this be under appeal when it says above “McAfee denies doing anything wrong, but has agreed to settle to avoid trial”? Are they appealing their decision to settle?

      ADMIN – Hi Gorbir,

The exact wording of the current update is as follows:

The court has granted final approval of the settlement. However, an appeal of that decision has been filed with an appeals court. Distribution of benefits (payments and value certificates) in this matter will take place after this appeal and any others are resolved and the settlement becomes final and effective

  4. Elizabeth says:

What date are we expected to receive this check?

    ADMIN – Hi Elizabeth,

    This is currently under appeal.

  5. Debra Rodriguez says:

My personal ID# REF009039317. I understand this case is being repealed, but what does that mean to me? Debra Rodriguez

    ADMIN – Hi Debra,

A repeal is when a judge finds that the case is not valid, is null it does not have legal merit.

    • Classy Action Lawyer says:

A “repeal?” No, the matter was on appeal. A repeal of a law done by a legislative body is distinct from an appeal of a court’s decision.

  6. A. Edwards says:

Paid McAfee for the automatic renewal of a subscription license during that period

  7. Terri says:

Is compensation coming? I’ve already completed the Cash Election Form.

    ADMIN – Hi Terri,

    We don’t know yet.

  8. Myrna Jones says:

    How much is it?

    ADMIN – Hi Myrna,

Refer to the portion titled “estimated amount” which reads $11.50.

  9. Elizabeth says:

It is currently March 27, 2017 and still no word regarding the Benefit Election Checks. Please provide updated information asap. Thank you.

    ADMIN – Hi Elizabeth,

Per the class action page the settlement is under appeal. No timeline as to when you will receive your settlement.

  10. Paul says:

I had McAfee anti virus in 2011 , How can I get proof of purchase ?

    ADMIN – Hi Paul,

I believe McAfee keeps records associated to email address.

  11. Esther Hancox says:

On today McAfee charged me 69.99. I want all my money back. The lawyers get 2.4 million and we get $11.50 for five years. This is totally unfair.

But my question is how can I get McAfee to stop charging my debit card.

    ADMIN – Hi Esther,

You contact them to cancel your service

  12. ANITA MATOS says:

What will a certificate do if I was already charged the auto renewal?

    ADMIN – Hi Anita,

Please be more specific with your question. What do you need to know.

  13. Patti Mackie says:

Hi I am included in this class action settlement and chose to have my monies sent by check and as of yet, have not received it. My Personal ID is: BOT006916793
Thank you for any information you can give me.

    ADMIN – Hi Patti,

You need to reach out to the class action admin. I cannot help you with specific claim info.

  14. Velma Watkins says:

Checking reference number M00082493, confirmation code ,84149 to see if the check had been issued?

    ADMIN – Hi Velma,

You need to contact the admin directly.

  15. Armelia says:

Hi I am checking to see if the class action settlement appeal has been finalized yet and if it has, how long does it take to deposit my benefit election into my paypal account?

    ADMIN – Hi Armelia,

Distribution of benefits (payments and value certificates) in this matter is set to commence in mid-June.

  16. Peggy Rice says:

When was this settlement and where is the money?

    ADMIN – Hi Peggy,

The settlement page indicates intent for distribution in mid June.

  17. Cunningham says:

I have an enterprise account with McAfee and have for some time. Working in the legal community, I am well aware of the nature of these settlements and the spread of remedy across the class.

My problem is that McAfee has “rigged” the result to continue their practices. They ask to apply the Certificate code to a renewal, but ask that if you want an alternative service then click, “continue shopping.” If you click, “continue shopping,” and select an item of lesser cost, the purchase is invalidated by tell the shopper that the password is incorrect.

When “forgot password” is clicked, and the e-mail link returns to change your password, you get another e-mail that says, “password successfully changed.” But when the new password is applied in the new product purchase log-in, it tells you your password is incorrect.

The only place you can apply your Certificate Code is at the link from the Case Administration weblink. When applied, it renews the same product as purchased, at a higher price than the better product you wanted, and you get an e-mail thanking you for the purchase, regardless of when the expiration of the product.

When you go to your account, which, of course, you can do now because it is for a purchase, you cannot edit your account information or remove your credit card details. Either the Certificate is a scam or McAfee is continuing its bad habits by avoiding the spirit, if not the letter, of the ruling.

    Thank you.

    ADMIN – Hi Cunningham,

This escalation can be best addressed by class counsel. Consider reaching out to them.

  18. Arline Broza says:

As a long-time customer of Optimum, I have had McAfee through them for many years which is automatically renewed annually. I see that a $11.50 refund is to be distributed. Will that show up as a deduction on my monthly bill from Optimum? It seems that Optimum will have a list of all its customers receiving McAfee and it would be rather a waste of time for each of its customers to fill out specific forms for this rebate and for the administrators to send out rebates. I assume that Optimum would be required to reduce their patrons monthly bills accordingly. Please let me know how this refund will be distributed. Surely Optimum has included the cost of McAfee in their basic charge for service and would bear the responsibility. I await your clarification. Thanks.

    Arlene,

Per the terms individuals who are set for auto-renewal will receive certificates as follows:

The distribution of value certificates in this matter is set to commence in mid-June. The value certificates will be valid for 150 days after issuance, must be used in a single purchase, are not redeemable for cash, and cannot be transferred. The value certificates may be applied to any purchase from McAfee of any McAfee or Intel Security consumer products, including McAfee or Intel Security consumer software licenses (including new purchases, manual renewals, or auto-renewals).2 Class Members who receive value certificates may apply them towards their next McAfee software auto-renewal, regardless of whether such auto-renewal is scheduled to occur before or after the expiration date for the value certificate. The value certificates may be applied to discounted and promotional pricing offered by McAfee, to a minimum price of zero (no cash refund will be available if use of a value certificate would drop a transaction below $0.00).

  19. Michael Belden says:

He owes me money for three computers. This amount is a slap in the face. Every time I could not get renewal his Trojans would trash out my computers. They all were desk top.

  20. Louise F. Tarbox says:

I have not been able to get through using the address http://www.mcafee.com/consumer/redemption to apply my value certificate towards my next automated renewal for McAfee. What should I do to have McAfee credit my account with the $11.50.

The Value Certificate Code is MFESEGUMMARSU
    Sincerely,
    Louise F. (Martin) Tarbox
    17 Holloway Avenue
    Coventry, RI 02816-7153

ps: the certificate was mailed to me under my maiden name: Louise Martin

    ADMIN – Hi Louise,

What you are displaying above is a URL not an email. I can see how that would not work when trying to get in touch with the admin. Try their email address instead.

  21. H. Lee says:

A $11.50 Certificate for McAfee products is a joke… your only true recourse is to stop using all McAfee products (and any businesses associated with McAfee.). As usual, big business stealing; when caught they settle the case for a worthless Certificate.

  22. Kathy Newcomb says:

In conjunction with Louise’s note, I too have not been able to access this URL and do not show an email to contact or apply my credit to my account. Any other suggestions or is this a scam also? I have tried to go to home.mcafee.com and this is where it got me.

    ADMIN – Hi Kathy,

It is not a scam but on occasion it gets tricky to get a hold of the class action administrator.

  23. Elaine Balkema says:

I cannot find the so called “www.mcafee.com/consumer/redemption” site. I have looked all over their website and site map and there is no place at all to redeem the $11.50 as I am also a renewal client. Even on the account page, there is no place to apply it and mine just renewed again in May. I am so frustrated with this. When will this get resolved? They are about to get canceled by many folks.

    ADMIN – Hi Elaine,

When I type that URL I get a redemption page.

    • Ray Gin says:

I shared and experience your same frustration. I called 1-866-622-3911 and asked for customer support. They added the extension of $11.50 to my account and extended my coverage by 2 months. Once they have your email that you registered with, they have all the rebate info. Hope this helps.

  24. W Fosberg says:

Another issue with McAfee… They send you emails telling you that your credit card needs updating (due to expiration date). But I intentionally ignore their emails because I plan to discontinue their service, they manually advance the expiration date on my credit card and charge my credit card for the renewal.

  25. Margie Pauline Clay says:

I received my check but it is made out to my deceased husband. I sent them a letter explaining this when I filled out the form why did I not get the check in my name?

    ADMIN – Hi Margie,

Please reach out to the class action administrator.

    • jeanwarmer says:

I had the same problem with the check being made out to my deceased husband. Did you get any feedback from the administrator? They told me they were reviewing.

  26. Terry Finley says:

I just received an $11.50 check in the mail payable to Charles Finley. Guess what? I completed the paperwork in the past and my name is not Charles; it is Terrance so I cannot cash it. When I called the number it went into the abyss and I was not able to reach a human being to ask them to reissue the check. OY! Bureaucracy.

  27. Agrieved Party says:

How much was granted in the settlement agreement for attorney fees

    ADMIN – Hi Agrieved,

Here is the document that points to that info.

  28. elizabeth doss says:

    Am I doing something wrong?

    ADMIN – Hi Elizabeth,

I don’t know. I can’t see what you are doing.

  29. Martin Allen says:

What can I purchase for $11.50?

    ADMIN – Hi Martin,

I think it is only good for a partial payment

  30. Darryl Christofanelli says:

Are you for real? We received a check, #530738, in the mail just last week. We took it to our bank to cash for $11.50, and there are no numbers of any kind for routing or bank, etc. Our bank gave it back and said it is no good! What is going on?

    ADMIN – Hi Darryl,

Are you sure you received a check and not a voucher to apply toward purchases?

  31. Phyllis Reeves says:

Received $11.50 check. Thank you for all that you’re doing to make this right.

  32. Charlie says:

I too cannot locate this URL can the administrator provide additional information on how to access the redemption site?

    ADMIN – Hi Charlie

Scroll up and you will find a number to contact

  33. Jorg Auge says:

can not find the web site indicated on notification I received so I can apply the $11.50 towards next renewal.

    ADMIN – Hi Jorg,

I checked and it worked for me.

  34. Leticia says:

Not able to apply Value Certificate Code and there is not automatic credit to the account for the $11.50.
McAfee I do not like to spend this much time trying to get my money back or credited to my account.
    Get with it.

    ADMIN – Hi Leticia,

Please keep in mind that you are complaining in the wrong setting. We are not the class action administrator so we are unable to help you.

  35. Pamela T. Tompkins says:

Please help me. My husband passed in 2009, and the check was issued in his name. Neither of my banks will redeem it. How do I redeem this check???
    Claim Number: AUT007289733
    Check Number: 553225
    Check Date: 6/15/2017

A prompt reply would be appreciated.
    Thank you, Pamela T. Tompkins

    ADMIN – Hi Pamela,

This is usually done with your POA

  36. Linda says:

What about the times we had to take our computer in because of issues, just so happened right around time of renewal. Don’t tell me there wasn’t some connection. At least twice, at over $100.

    ADMIN – Hi Linda,

This class action settlement does not include that type of damage or issues.

  37. Ruby Tipton says:

I received this class action card with a code on it, do I give you this code, I don’t know when my term is up for me computer protection.
please let me know, Thank you

    ADMIN – Hi Ruby,

You don’t give me the code. The code is like a coupon code to redeem for an 11.50 discount.

  38. Peggy Thomas says:

I have had the same problems as listed above–unable to find the site listed and refusals to accept the certificate code when offered. The phone and web address listed on the notification card are useless.
What is the claims administrator doing to help remedy these. The piddly amount of the settlement isn’t my concern, it’s the way this is being handled–another bamboozle by McAfee!!

    ADMIN – Hi Peggy,

The number and email provided is to the class action administrator. If he is not doing a thing consider contacting class counsel.

  39. Redfox says:

I do not use McAfee. This is why.

  40. Jennifer Castillo says:

  43. Jae says:

I received two post cards and neither promo code works. What is going on?

    ADMIN – Hi Jae,

I have no idea. It would be best to contact McAffe.

  44. Bob Osekavage says:

McAfee remembers your login, and if you haven’t logged out, you will be directed to the McAfee store page. But. if you log out in the “my account” profile page, when you follow the link in the e-mail you will be presented with a page where you can “Log in to redeem your value certificate”. Unfortunately, I ended up at guess where? the McAfee store.
It may have something to do with me changing my e-mail address several weeks ago, Has anyone had any success with this navigawtion path?

  45. Larry Langley says:

I entered the redemption url in my browser and all it came up with was the McAfee home page, which has nothing about redemption.

    ADMIN – Hi Larry,

Clear your browser an logout from your account.

  46. walter schmidt says:

    Please submit check

    ADMIN – Hi Walter,

What are you trying to do?

    Confirmation Code: 22901
I understand payments started 6/8/2017 & have no recollection of receipt.
    Thank you!

    ADMIN – Hi Margaret,

I am not the class action administrator. To get assistance related to your claim you must contact the class action admin using the information we provided above.

  50. Margaret McGovern says:

Confession is good for the soul. I just did what I should have done before bothering you….I did receive the $11.50 check in June. Guess being in the path of Hurricane Irma has unsettled me.
Thank you again and my apologies for taking up your time.

    ADMIN – Hi Margaret,

    No problem. Stay safe.

  51. Gwendolyn Wigen says:

My Certificate Code is MFESEGSUUDAAA. Please apply to my next autopay. Thank you.

  52. STEVEN YUEN says:

I KEPT ON GETTING THESE CHARGES.

  53. Christie Culver says:

I received the check, deposited the check within the 90 days as required on the check. The check bounced, says return to maker, now my bank is charging me $15, so now it’s cost me money. Oh and now the check that was returned to me didn’t make it to me in time for the 90 day window.

    ADMIN – Hi Christie,

Contact class action first, if they don’t help you reach out to class counsel.

  54. Stephen Lange says:

You make it impossible to file for refund or credit on my automatic renewal. This is BS

    ADMIN – Hi Stephen,

Not me. I am just the humble admin of this page. We are an independent publication. If you have a concern about a settlement you need to escalate the issue directly with the class action admin.

  55. Lisa A. Mitchell says:

    Owned McAfee for 15 years

    ADMIN – Hi Lisa,

You can’t own McAfee. Perhaps you are trying to tell us that you have paid for their services for the last 15 years? Regardless, the deadline for this settlement has passed and you are no longer able to file

  56. John Beran says:

The site listed on the postcard I received with the direction how make my claim, http://www.mcafee.com/consumer/redemption, does not locate. There is no where I can find to apply my value certificate to my automatic renewal. Please direct me where I can file my application to apply my credit to my next renewal .

    ADMIN – Hi John,

When I try the link it works for me. It leads me to a redemption page.

  57. Howard H Frank says:

There are better truth full companies to deal with . Another Class Action win for the Lawyer !
And a waste of Post Card teaser mailing.

    ADMIN – Hi Howard,

I am sorry you are upset.
