I got the notice sent to all my Gmail accounts. I have never used social networking in my life, and never had a Google+ account. Are they sending the notice to just everyone who has a Google account or something? Strange huh?

I also received the Google+ notice to one of my emails. I also never used social networking of any kind.

    • Lisa Peterson says:

Your google account is automatically set up for networking.

      Read up on that 🙂

The discussion suggests that if you did not actually use g+, then you had a bunch of empty pages attached to your Google Handle. So even if someone had used the API (and Google claims nobody did), the attacker could only obtain your nickname. That is unless you are foolish enough to give Google your birth date, real name, place of birth, and state of residence.

It is easy to get a government ID in some states if you know a person’s name, birthdate, place of birth, and current state of residence. They only fixed that in Arizona (the identity theft capitol of the USA), in October of 2019.

Honestly if anyone filed a claim, please say so on here. I somehow doubt that even .001% of us who received the notice filed any claim. After all do you really want to give your details, when odds are your Google account is under a nickname?
